Crayola and Salvation Army

ALLENTOWN, PA (November 02, 2011)—The Salvation Army needs to raise $1.5 million during the Christmas season to help fight homelessness and hunger here in the Lehigh Valley. Starting next week, The Salvation Army will turn out its tradition of Red Kettles around the Lehigh Valley, in hope to take in $390,000 from kettle donations, alone.

"At the Salvation Army, we see on a daily basis the face of homelessness and it is not a stereotype, but a real need among all ages and all groups, including small children who show up at our door with a parent. We don't want to say, 'there is no room at the inn,'" said Major Roger Dupperre, coordinator of the Lehigh Valley Salvation Army, at a press event at Crayola Experience last week.

Crayola President and CEO Mike Perry joined Salvation Army officers from Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Pen Argyl, at The Crayola Experience, 30 Centre Square, Easton, to officially launch the 2011 Red Kettle Campaign of The Salvation Army on November 2.

Later, that night, at the charity event —Savor the Season— at the DaVinci Discovery Center, Allentown, Perry announced that Crayola donated $25,000 toward The Salvation Army's fundraising effort.

"Crayola believes in the work of The Salvation Army; they provide food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless and hope for those who have lost faith. That's why we've chosen to partner with them this year. As honorary chairman of this year's fundraising efforts, I urge everyone throughout the Lehigh Valley to help make a difference in the lives of many, by supporting the work of The Salvation Army," said Perry.

In 2010, The Salvation Army of Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Pen Argyl assisted more than 31,000 area residents of all ages and backgrounds with emergency and ulitlity assistance, holiday dinners, food baskets, toys, gift cards and clothing for families, youth and senior citizens.
